Why don’t I see 5G in the status bar on my iPhone?

If you're not seeing the 5G indicator in your iPhone’s status bar, here are a few potential reasons and steps to resolve the issue:

Possible Reasons:

  1. Your iPhone Does Not Support 5G
Only iPhone 12 or later models support 5G. If you have an older model, 5G will not be available.
  2. Your eSIM Does Not Support 5G
Some eSIMs may not support 5G. Make sure that your eSIM is 5G-compatible.
  3. The Area You Are in Is Not Covered by 5G
Ensure that you're in an area with 5G coverage. Not all regions have 5G infrastructure yet.

Steps to Troubleshoot:

  1. Check Coverage
Ensure that you're in an area that has 5G coverage. You can refer to your carrier's coverage map for details.
  2. Verify 5G Activation
    • Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile > Preferred SIM > Cellular/Mobile Data Options.
    • Ensure that "Voice & Data" has 5G On selected. If not, toggle it to activate 5G.
  3. Restart Network
If your iPhone is 5G-compatible and the settings are correct, try toggling Airplane Mode on, then off. This can help reconnect to the 5G network.

Additional Notes:

  • 5G speeds can vary depending on your location and network conditions.
  • If you still don’t see the 5G icon, it may be worth contacting your carrier to confirm if 5G service is available in your current location.
