Does the Apple Watch series support eSIM?

It seems there is some confusion about the compatibility of eSIM with the Apple Watch models. To clarify:

  • Apple Watch 38mm and 42mm (Series 1 and Series 2) do not support eSIM. These models are designed to work with traditional nano-SIM cards, not eSIM technology.
  • Apple Watch Series 3 and later models do support eSIM. These newer models have the built-in capability to use eSIM profiles, allowing you to connect to cellular networks without needing a physical SIM card.

If you want to use eSIM with your Apple Watch, here are the options:

  1. Use a special SIM card adapter: Some third-party adapters claim to allow older devices to support eSIM profiles. However, compatibility and performance may vary, and not all adapters work reliably.
  2. Upgrade to a newer Apple Watch: The simplest and most reliable way is to upgrade to an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, as these models are designed to work natively with eSIM.

Please keep in mind that eSIM availability can vary depending on your location and the carrier you're using. Make sure to verify with your carrier if eSIM is supported for your Apple Watch model.
